Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept

Legacy elevates the inherent advantages of its signature Subaru layout-balance, composure and response–with the Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept (DC³). The body uses high-tensile steel in critical areas to achieve high strength and light weight. A highly rigid Cradle Mount front-end structure delivers an accurate, natural steering feel whilst allowing the engine and suspension to be effectively isolated from the cabin for a smoother, quieter ride. The result is everything that makes driving a pleasure: confidence with comfort, sportiness with safety, and elegance with efficiency – all in impeccable balance.

 

Front Suspension

Legacy’s strut type front suspension features a highly rigid Cradle Mount System, a wide tread and long wheel travel. Together they deliver flatter cornering as well as a quieter, more comfortable ride over a variety of road surfaces.

 

Rear Suspension

Expertly balancing sporty handling with refinement, Legacy’s double wishbone rear suspension handles rough roads and sharp corners with poise and precision. To maximise stability and provide increased responsiveness, the suspension features pillow ball bushings in the lower control arms. Tyre contact is improved under all conditions whilst keeping unwanted vibration away from the passenger compartment.

2.0-LITRE DOHC TURBO SUBARU BOXER DIESEL

The inherent rigidity, smoothness and quiet operation of the SUBARU BOXER engine make it the ideal configuration for the world’s first BOXER DIESEL to power a passenger vehicle. Higher pressure common rail fuel injection, an improved oxidizing catalyst with closed Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), a variable nozzle turbo and electric power steering reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Ceramic glow plugs quicken starting in cold weather. And whilst meeting the ultra-clean EURO5 emission standards, it delivers even more torque compared to the previous model year. A prodigious 350-Nm of peak torque is delivered at a lower 1,600 rpm – providing smooth, free-breathing performance at any speed. In addition, the retuned powerplant combined with the redesigned 6-speed manual transmission provide a 7% improvement in fuel efficiency over previous models.

6-Speed Manual Transmission + Viscous Centre Differential AWD

For maximum control and sporty satisfaction, a slick-shifting 6-speed manual transmission is standard on 2.0D models. It’s paired with an AWD system utilising a centre differential with viscous LSD (Limited Slip Differential). If wheel speed differs between the front and rear axles, the system helps distribute power to the wheels with the most traction. The 6-speed offers smoother, more precise shifting, along with the compact size and lightweight that add to Legacy’s sporty feel.

 

5-Speed Automatic Transmission + Variable Torque Distribution AWD

Legacy 2.5GT Sport model is equipped with a refined E-5AT automatic transmission paired with Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) AWD. VTD instantaneously distributes the engine’s torque to all four wheels whilst focusing on the rear wheels to suit the conditions for enhanced handling and superior traction and stability. The electronically controlled 5-speed transmission features driver-adaptive shifting, blipping control for quicker, smoother downshifts, and manual-style control via paddle shifters.

 

Lineartronic + Active Torque Split AWD

For instant, seamless response to changing conditions, Legacy 2.0i, 2.5i, and 2.5i Sport models are available with Lineartronic, a Continuously Variable Transmission that uses a chain instead of a belt—allowing a greater span of overall ratios for improved performance and efficiency as well as a faster response to your throttle input. It’s longitudinally paired with an active torque-split AWD system that responds to traction conditions, the transmission and driver inputs by continuously controlling the torque distribution front to rear. Paddle shifters also provide a six-step manual mode for quick response on demand.

 

Cruise Control

Standard electronic cruise control allows the driver to maintain a preset speed on the open road. Located on the steering wheel, the controls are finished in a modern dark-metallic sheen.
